What This Sectional Matrix System M3 Kit Is

A complete sectional matrix system for Class II posterior restorations in one retail set. Instead of buying bands, rings and wedges from three SKUs, one box carries all three in matching sizes: 150 metal matrix bands, 3 NiTi clamp rings and 100 composite wedges, plus a compartment tray and a size reference card.

The kit follows the M3 sectional concept: a pre-contoured band is placed against the proximal box, a NiTi ring clamps it to the tooth, and a wedge seals the gingival margin. It suits general practices doing Class II composites, paediatric practices that need the 3.5mm band in the same set, and clinics keeping one tray per operatory instead of separate band, ring and wedge boxes.

How To Choose The Band Size

Match the band to the tooth, not to the box on the shelf:

  • 3.5mm Pediatric - primary molars and very small premolars.
  • 4.5mm Premolar - first and second premolars.
  • 5.5mm Small Molar - first molars with average crown width.
  • 6.5mm Molar - standard adult molars.
  • 7.5mm Molar with Deep Cervical - molars where the gingival margin sits below the usual height, including subgingival caries.

If unsure, start one size narrower and check the proximal seal before clamping.

Choosing The Clamp Ring

All three rings are NiTi, so they open and close on spring tension rather than a screw.

  • Short - premolars and short clinical crowns, where a tall ring would sit above the contact.
  • Tall - standard molars, giving more separation force across a taller crown.
  • Wide Prep - wide proximal boxes and MOD preparations that need a broader span.

Each ring has a coloured insert - blue Short, orange Tall, green Wide Prep.

Wedge Sizes And Colour Code

Wedges are colour coded so size selection does not depend on reading a label mid-procedure:

  • L - Green for large embrasures.
  • M - Orange for medium embrasures.
  • S - Blue for small embrasures.
  • ES - Yellow for extra small embrasures and tight contacts.

The serrated wedge body grips the embrasure; the flat tab stays outside the contact for easy removal.

Material And Handling

  • Matrix bands: thin pre-contoured metal sectional bands, pre-cut to the five working sizes.
  • Clamp rings: NiTi (nickel-titanium) with colour-coded contact inserts.
  • Wedges: moulded composite wedges with a flexible tip and a rigid tab.
  • Clean and disinfect the metal parts per your practice protocol; wedges are single-patient consumables.

Store the set in the tray, lid closed; the five band sizes stay in their own compartments.

Step By Step

  1. Prepare the proximal box and place the selected band against the tooth.
  2. Seat the band so the contoured section follows the gingival margin.
  3. Insert the wedge from buccal or lingual to adapt the band cervically.
  4. Open the NiTi ring over band and tooth, straddling the contact.
  5. Check the seal, restore, cure, then remove ring, wedge and band.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many pieces are in one kit?

253 pieces per set: 150 metal matrix bands (30 each in 3.5mm, 4.5mm, 5.5mm, 6.5mm and 7.5mm), 3 NiTi clamp rings (Short, Tall, Wide Prep) and 100 composite wedges (25 each in L, M, S and ES).

Which band size should I use for a first molar?

Use the 5.5mm Small Molar band for an average first molar and the 6.5mm Molar band for a wider crown. If the gingival margin sits lower than usual, use the 7.5mm Deep Cervical band instead of forcing a standard band below the contact.

What is the difference between the three rings?

Short is for premolars and short clinical crowns, Tall is for standard molars, and Wide Prep spans wider proximal boxes and MOD preparations. All three are NiTi rings with colour-coded inserts: blue Short, orange Tall, green Wide Prep.

Are the bands, rings and wedges reusable?

The NiTi clamp rings are reusable instruments and are cleaned and disinfected following your practice protocol. The metal bands are thin sectional bands and are normally used for a single restoration; the composite wedges are single-patient consumables.

Do you offer wholesale or private label packing?

Yes. Bulk quantities, mixed cartons and private label packing are available on request; send the sizes and quantities you need and we will quote with delivery time.
