Dental Burs (4)

Dental Burs from Orthdent

A dental bur is the cutting instrument that fits into the handpiece and removes tooth structure, prepares a surface or finishes a restoration. The material of the bur, the shape of the head and the type of shank decide what the bur can be used for.

  • Material. Tungsten carbide burs cut efficiently and hold their edge on tooth structure, metals and composites. Diamond burs use abrasive particles bonded to the head, and are used for precise shaping and for harder materials.
  • Shape. Round, fissure (flat-end and taper), inverted cone, pear and flame shapes are used for different access and finishing tasks.
  • Shank. FG (friction grip) fits high-speed air turbines. RA (right angle / latch) fits contra-angle slow-speed handpieces. HP (handpiece) fits straight slow-speed handpieces. A bur only fits the handpiece whose shank it has.
  • Grit and size. Coarse, medium, fine and extra-fine grits change how aggressively a bur removes material and how smooth the finish is.

Orthdent supplies dental burs to dental clinics, laboratories and distributors. Browse the listing above for the shapes, grits and shank types currently in stock.
