Buccal tube (17)

Brand

Orthodontic Buccal Tubes from Orthdent

Buccal tubes are the attachments welded or bonded to the molar bands at the back of the mouth. They hold the end of the arch wire, anchor the appliance in the molar region, and take the load of the forces the wire applies further forward.

Points worth checking when you choose a buccal tube:

  • Tooth position. First molar and second molar tubes are shaped differently, because the tooth surface and the angle of the wire differ.
  • Configuration. Single, double and triple tubes give you different combinations of arch wire slots and auxiliary tubes for headgear, lip bumper or auxiliary wires.
  • Convertibility. Convertible tubes have a removable cap, so the same attachment can serve during treatment and be converted to a plain tube at the end.
  • Bonding or welding. Welded tubes come fixed to a band. Bondable tubes attach directly to the tooth.

Browse the listing above for the tube types and configurations currently in stock, and contact us if you need a specific molar or auxiliary configuration.

Common questions

What is the difference between a buccal tube and a bracket? A bracket takes the wire at the front of the tooth. A buccal tube is a closed tube at the back of the mouth that holds the end of the wire and anchors the appliance to the molar.

When do you use a double or triple tube? When you need extra auxiliary tubes for headgear, a lip bumper or an auxiliary arch, rather than only the main arch wire slot.

Which molar size do I need? First and second molar tubes are not interchangeable - check the tooth position against the listing above, and contact us if you are unsure.
